I have loved horses all of my life. I am convinced that it is a genetic trait. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be on a horse! I used to create dreamlike scenarios in my head, traveling on horse back at break neck speed with a sense of freedom I could not find anywhere else. It never left me, and thank God it didn’t. It’s not just a second career, it’s a second calling.
As an instructor who is always learning, I have continued my education by attending several clinics every year with some of the top clinicians in the world. In addition, I have more than 25 years of experience with horses. I haven’t won major competitions or bred high end horses my entire life, but then, we all know that some of the best coaches and teachers are not always the top performers or athletes. I see it from the student’s perspective. I struggle and then I learn, then I share it with my students who bring their experiences to me. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Horses have taught me to live life to the fullest and so here is my purpose:
I want you to find the wondrous joy that comes from communicating and sharing space with a truly feeling, intuitive and wise creature. A creature whose life depends on social interaction, who cannot live without the relationship of those who share her life. I want you to know how humble and giving these creatures are and what they’ve taught me about learning to let go of the layers of defense-to be authentic with every other creature in our lives. I want you to know that when we become more aware of our body and the messages it sends, we will finally learn to be honest with ourself and others. The horse knows when our body speaks a different message than our voice and they will tell us when we are inconsistent and incongruent. I want you to know the love that comes from caring for another creature and reaping the rewards of a relationship built on mutual respect. You will learn to set boundaries but be open to exploring and asking questions without setting agendas.
I want you to experience a childlike sense of fun and to explore the deepest center of your joy and happiness and bring it to life every day.
I look forward to meeting you with the horses- Cathy Mahon
